June 8 and 9 were momentous days at Langara as faculty, administration and special guests gathered to recognize the academic achievements of the College’s 45th graduating class.

As one of the most important occasions in Langara’s academic year, convocation marks the day that the College officially confers degrees, associate degrees, diplomas, certificates, and citations. This year, over 1,000 credentials were awarded and more than 440 graduands attended convocation ceremonies.

In addition, eight awards were handed out to seven graduands for their outstanding academic achievements and commitment to community service.

To help commemorate this year’s ceremonies, four distinguished members of the community delivered inspiring convocation addresses:

  • Robert Calnan, Association of Registered Nurses of BC Co-chair
  • Kevin Hanson, acclaimed basketball coach and 2008 Langara Alumni Award for Athletic Achievement recipient
  • Bruce Hurst, CGA Association of BC Chair and Langara alumnus
  • Jennifer Wade, justice advocate and international human rights worker

Other special guests and speakers included Vancouver-Langara MLA, Moira Stilwell; Langara President & CEO, David Ross; Langara Academic & Provost Vice-President, Martin Gerson; and members of the Langara Board of Governors and Langara Faculty Association

Following the convocation ceremonies, newly-minted graduates mingled with family, friends and guests and enjoyed light refreshments in the Students’ Union Building.

Congratulations to our graduates and best wishes for a successful future!
