Join TCDC and colleagues for a special book launch and reception honouring The Highest Chief by author and snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara Elder-in-Residence, Nk’xetko.
Elder Mary Jane Joe, Nk'xetko, a member of the Interior Salish Ntle'kepmx Nation, from the Joeyaska Indian Reserve near Merritt BC, is a survivor of the Kamloops Residential School. In 2021, she published her first book, Xwist Memin Kin "I Want to Go Home”: Memories of Kamloops Residential School and Joeyaska Ranch. Published in February 2025, her latest book, The Highest Chief, recounts the chapters of love, loss, family and her life since leaving residential school.
Nk’xetko has been the snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara Elder-in-Residence since 2016 and previously taught in Aboriginal Studies for over ten years.
A public event open to all Langara students and employees, the book launch is an opportunity to meet Elder Nk'xetko and hear her read from her new book. Light refreshments will be served.
