Dear students, faculty, and staff,

I’m pleased to let you know that the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training has released the Go Forward Guidelines for BC’s post-secondary institutions. These guidelines (pdf) guide the College’s decisions and our Return to Campus plan as we gradually move towards on-campus teaching, learning, and research in September 2021.

The guidelines were developed by a team of experts from the public post-secondary sector in partnership with the Ministry and representatives from the BC Centre for Disease Control, regional health authorities, and the Office of the Provincial Health Officer.

COVID-19 is a virus that is unlikely to be eliminated from the population but can be managed in the same manner as other common respiratory infections. Those of us who are able to get vaccinated contribute to a safe campus environment and help support our campus safety plan. All students, including international students, are eligible to be vaccinated.

The College community continues to report a high vaccination intention rate (85% among students and 90% among employees). All residents of BC ages 12+, who wish to be vaccinated, have had an opportunity to receive at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Due to BC's accelerated vaccination schedule, most will have received two doses by the end of the summer.

I am very much looking forward to seeing students, faculty, and staff in person once again this fall. If you have any questions about our Return to Campus plan, please do not hesitate to reach out to our recovery leads at returntocampus@langara.ca.

Our updates for students can be found on langara.ca/returntocampus

Sincerely,

Dr. Lane Trotter
