Dec 7 update: The current restrictions have been extended to Jan 8, 2021

Due to rapid increases in the number of COVID-19 cases in the province, yesterday the Provincial Health Officer of BC (PHO) extended new restrictions for two weeks for all regions within British Columbia.

In response, the College is reviewing our health and safety plans, and signage in response to these new orders. All classes, labs, and exams, whether online or in-person, are continuing as scheduled. Changes for our community that you should note include:

  • Masks are now mandatory in in all indoor public settings such as hallways, elevators, kitchens, customer-service counters, breakrooms, meeting rooms, computer labs, libraries, and spaces such as the Bookstore and The Gathering Space. Masks are expected inside the classroom.
  • Social events, indoor and outdoor, must be cancelled. This does not apply to curricular activities (classes, labs, exams). Safety plans for high-risk curricular and varsity athletic activities involving high respiration rates will be reassessed by Health & Safety.
  • There can be no spectators for indoor or outdoor sports.
  • While travel within the Province should be avoided, students can return home from other communities, but must then stick to their immediate household.
  • Social gatherings outside of your immediate household are restricted, and all non-essential travel within the province should be avoided. Several exposures have been traced back to socializing before and after events. Please do not socialize with others not in your immediate household before or after your classes.

This order is in effect until December 7, 2020 at which time, the PHO will update the province on the status of the order based on the latest public health information.

We remind you to:

  • Stay home if you have any cold or flu symptoms.
  • If you study on campus, but can study from home, please do so for the next two weeks.
  • Everyone should limit non-essential visits to campus during this time. If you must come to campus, continue to complete the Thrive BC self-assessment every day without exception. The College may increase our validation that this is being done consistently.
  • When on campus, continue to maintain physical distances as per our health and safety plans, and always wear a mask in public areas and whenever you can’t maintain physical distance from others.
  • If you have tested positive for COVID-19, please follow all directives given to you by the health authority. If you develop symptoms while on campus, please notify your instructor.

The Langara community has been good at following the College’s health and safety protocols, and we thank you for your continued cooperation. All of us in BC need to do our part to help flatten our curve. Please be sure to review and follow all the new orders issued yesterday, including new restrictions on social gatherings, group fitness, and non-essential travel.
