Fall Term Update

Now that the summer term is underway, Langara has been focusing on our plans for the fall semester. As you may be aware, the COVID-19 situation in BC has improved, which has led to the Premier and Provincial Health Officer outlining new guidelines that allow some increased flexibility for how we operate, while keeping the health and safety of students and employees paramount. This new flexibility is a result of our collective efforts in staying home to help flatten the curve. Thank you to each of you for your part in those efforts. 

Based on the updated advice we have received from the Provincial Government and our academic assessments of how best to teach different subject matter, we have decided to take the following approach to the delivery of our courses this fall:

• Courses or course modules that can be delivered effectively remotely will continue in that format. That includes most courses at the College.
• On an exception basis, courses or course modules that require some degree of face-to-face instruction, may be delivered that way if it is possible to safely do so while respecting the Provincial Health Officer’s directives. 

This approach allows most students and employees to remain safe at home, sustaining their education and work, while continuing to help stop the spread of the virus. It also allows students who need to complete courses that require some face-to-face instruction to access those courses in a way that reduces health risks. Registration for the fall term will begin as scheduled on June 22. In advance of registration opening, the Registration Guide and Course Schedule will be updated with information about our course offerings for the fall, including their delivery format (completely online or a mix of online and face-to-face).

Decisions regarding on-campus services will be made over the summer, and updates provided to the campus community.   

Thank you for your patience while we planned how best to balance our commitment to providing a high-quality learning experience for our students, with the need to protect health and safety.
