Langara’s instructors and academic leadership have been working very hard to ensure that our students receive a high-quality learning experience and can complete the term under these challenging circumstances. Langara continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation and has been taking steps to keep our students and employees safe, based on the advice of Public Health officials.

In order to increase social distancing, we will be transitioning to online instruction and alternative forms of delivery and assessment, where possible and reasonable. To facilitate this transition, the College will temporarily cease face-to-face instruction on March 16 and 17th. This change will start this week, and continue for the remainder of the term, for both regular and continuing studies programs. Our campuses will remain open, and all college operations will continue while implementing measures to support social distancing.

We are working to support our instructors with this change to determine whether, and how best, to accommodate alternative methods of instruction and assessment. We appreciate that this is a significant change and we ask for your patience while we work through it. With hundreds of different courses, transition will look different for each instructor based on their subject area and the learning outcomes that must be met. Students will learn of the changes affecting them through their instructors as changes are implemented.

As a reminder, there are currently no known cases of COVID-19 at Langara College, and the College has no classes with 250 students. Larger events on campus have been cancelled, cleaning schedules have been increased, and the seating in the cafeteria has been reduced to 200 to increase social distancing. Langara is following the advice of Public Health Officials in our response to this challenging situation.

We recognize that this situation is stressful for us all, and I want to thank you for your patience in these challenging circumstances. We value the health and well-being of all our students and employees, and we will come through this together as a community if we continue to follow the advice of health officials and support one another.
