This course offers a solid understanding of the use of soft pastels. Gain confidence and practise in the correct use of this highly flexible and versatile medium including layering effects and an expanded use of colour. This course also includes an introduction to the 'sight size' and 'comparative' methods of measuring. Note: A supply list will be e-mailed prior to start of class.
This intensive drawing course will provide the skills needed for the sound practice of drawing. Learn correct measurement techniques by drawing still life and the figure with an emphasis on line and tone. In addition, the age old practice and discipline of copying drawings from the old masters will be studied. Open to students of all skill levels.Note: A supply list will be emailed prior to start of class.
Charcoal is the drawing medium of choice for artists because it handles with great freedom; from expressive and delicate lines to rich tonal depths. Broaden your knowledge of this often overlooked medium by using different types of paper, exploring contemporary methods of layering, and using different types of fixatives. You will also explore the historical use of charcoal and how it has evolved into a flexible medium for artists today.Bring a pad of newsprint, a pad of bond or cartridge paper, 3-4 sticks of compressed charcoal, and a box of vine charcoal to first class.

This beginner level course introduces the typical materials and techniques of watercolour painting, including basic drawing skills. Explore glazing and wet-on-wet techniques, flat and graded washes, as well as colour, value, and composition. This course includes lectures and demonstrations with plenty of time dedicated to painting, and helpful one-on-one guidance from the instructor.Note: A supply list will be emailed prior to start of class.
