What Is An Exchange?

An exchange gives you the opportunity to study for one semester at a university or college that has an exchange agreement with Langara College. As an exchange student, you will pay tuition to Langara College and transfer the credits you earn back to your Langara transcript. (Note: The granting of transfer credit will depend on which courses you take at Tokiwa. Any transfer credits granted by Langara may not be transferable to other Canadian institutions.)

How Long Is The Exchange?

The exchange will be one semester long. The fall semester runs from September to December Students arrive in Japan for an orientation/registration week at the beginning of the term (dates to be confirmed).


Courses at Tokiwa

International students are required to take five courses as follows:

  • Japanese Language
  • Japanese Affairs
  • Three elective cultural courses


Each course normally consists of fifteen classes, of 90 minutes each, for a total of 202.5 hours of instruction. Staff at Tokiwa will help you select appropriate courses. You will register for your courses after arriving in Japan.
