Originally identified as a need by students in Langara College’s Studio 58 theatre training program, Parallel Play is the result of over a decade of work by the department’s academic leaders and pupils.
While seeking material that represents the broad spectrum of society reflected in students, Studio 58 realized that there was a lack of a central source of reference for theatrical scripts based on gender identity, cultural background, level of study, age of characters, casting restrictions, performance history, and country of origin.
A collection of 760 culturally diverse plays and playwrights was compiled. The collection will be available to students, faculty, other professional theatre training institutions, the national and international theatre community, and the public via a permanent and searchable database.
