Businesses is about more than making money. They're an opportunity for you to realize your dreams, work towards your passions, or find something meaningful.

In this one-week camp, learn to turn your idea into a viable business venture. Find out what investors look for, perfect your “elevator” pitch, and create a presentation that will impress an investor. You’ll act creatively, work hard, and determine how you want to leave your mark, collaborating with classmates and mentors along the way – relationships you forge and the skills you gain will keep you going when the going gets tough.

The camp finale will feature a presentation where awards will be given for the best pitches. Do you have what it takes to impress the Dragons?

CRN 60402
Date: July 10 – 14, 2023

Dive into photography with this exciting one-week camp using your Digital SLR camera. Explore light, develop your eye, and refine your results to create images with impact. You will also be working with analogue cameras (on loan from Langara) to expose film, develop negatives, and make a series of experimental darkroom prints.

You’ll learn to get the most out of your camera and fine-tune your technical skills. During studio and outdoor photo sessions, participants will build visual compositions for colourful and creative images using ICM, multiple exposures, and panning. Post-processing to create images will be explored using Adobe Lightroom.

Bring a DSLR or mirrorless camera to camp. Limited equipment will be available for student use.

Swordplay comes head-to-head with our Fencing Summer Camp. Did you know that the tip of a fencing sword is the second fastest moving object at the Olympics – right after the bullet? 

This is an incredible opportunity for you to have tremendous amount of fun while experiencing both European and Japanese style of fencing. This combat sport is a great way to build agility, strength, endurance, and flexibility. Participants will learn to lunge, parry, and feint your way through this fascinating sport. No experience is necessary, but you’ll need to bring quick wits and fast feet! 

All safety equipment will be provided. Please wear non-marking indoor sport shoes and long athletic pants for class.

Ever wondered what goes into planning spaces for human inhabitation? How do earthquakes, volcanoes, and droughts happen? Curious about how our decisions impact the entire world? Explore GeoCamp for the answers to these and other questions!

This one week camp will introduce basic concepts and processes in human and physical geography through hands-on experiments, fun activities, in-class learning, and the living world around Langara!

Interested in electronic music? Do you dream of being a DJ or working in music production? Do you want to create music for movies, television, and video games?

In this camp, participants will learn about music theory and what makes a piece of music memorable. Dive into sequencing, arranging, and recording with music production software. Eventually, learn how to output your final tracks to share with the world.

Do you have stories you would like to share? Are you interested how you can weave words and photos into a compelling narrative?

Traditionally, one would catch the news in printed form. However, with current sustainability practices and the rise of technology, print newspapers are quickly become a thing of the past. With news being viewed on everything from televisions to smartphones, visual reporting and citizen journalism is becoming more important than ever.

Learn how to use the most powerful tool that we all possess – our smartphone. A single image or short video clip can instantly add more context and pack an emotional punch to every story. Learn how to take professional quality photos with the “Top 10 Killer Photo Tips”. Spend a week learning what it takes to survive in the world of journalism. A great hands-on experience for teens interested in journalism, writing or photography.

Given the opportunity, young leaders can have great influence over positive change in their communities.

In this camp, participamnts will explore issues of sustainability, ecology, and social justice. They will connect in new ways to the Earth, and work with peers to explore and execute an action plan of their own to make the world a better place.

Our summer camp is a call to passionate, motivated youth who care about the Earth to deepen their understanding of sustainability, build their communication skills, and explore how technology can drive initiatives for meaningful change.

Date: July 10 – 21, 2023

This camp is for those curious about how to capture, share, and edit great photos from their smartphone. Learn professional techniques including lighting, portraiture, commercial photographic styling, and post-processing using the camera conveniently located in our phones. Master the art of the spontaneous snap!

Not all cameras are the same, but instructors will do their best to present alternate methods to achieve similar effects on older phones, whenever possible.

Date: July 17 – 21, 2023

A new and exciting branch of theatre is being developed by young people, based on their ideas, experiences, passions, questions, and frustrations. This camp will help participants develop their imagination, creativity, self-confidence, and empathy in a fun and expressive way.

Participants will experiment and explore their stories and ideas, and develop them into emotional and physical performance pieces of all kinds: sketches, scenes, monologues, physical theatre, moments, spoken word, or stand-up while collaborating with a class of like-minded young performers. Please wear comfortable clothing for class.

Date: July 10 – 21, 2023

VEX Robotics Summer Camp Two weeks - $765

Some predict that robots will be smarter than humans by 2045. Others say it will take hundreds of years. What we do know for sure is that robots are increasingly becoming a part of our daily lives. Join us for a two-week journey into the exciting world of robotics! 

Working individually and as part of a team, you will build your own custom robot using the LEGO Mindstorms kits. Have your robot solve challenges, navigate obstacle courses, and compete against fellow campers for bragging rights over having the best ‘bot.

Participants will study how technology is allowing us to create more intelligent robots than ever before and explore open source plans to build a humanoid robot out of components that can be printed on a 3D printer.

Campers should have knowledge of, and be comfortable with, basic coding.
