When is the deadline to register for a course?
I am starting a program, what courses should I take?
  • This will depend on the accounting program credential you choose to pursue. Most students should start with courses that do not have course prerequisites, such as BSAD 1084 (concurrently with BSAD 1085), BSAD 1088, and BSAD 1123, with the exception of the Advanced Accounting Short-Certificate program, which does not include the above courses and will require prerequisite overrides to enroll in the courses if they were not taken with Langara.
I work during the day, what time are the classes?
  • Vast Majority of the courses are held in the weekday evenings, typically from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, offering conveneince for those who work during the day. For specific schedule details of each course, please refer to the course schedule.
Am I required to take a specific number of courses each semester?
  • Students can take any number of courses in a semester.
I work full-time, how many courses should I take?
  • Students who work full-time generally enroll in 1-2 full-semester course(s) in a term.
Are there any grant or financial assistance for the programs?
  • The Advanced Accounting Short Certificate program is eligible for funding of up to $3,500 from StrongerBC Future Skills grant. Please visit our grant page for information about registration and application. Eligible students will have up to one year to complete the program using the grant.
Can I complete an accounting program online?
  • Majority of the accounting courses are in-person and students cannot complete the program online. There are selective courses within accounting that are held online, such as software courses like Sage 50, Sage 300, and Quickbooks. All course final exams are in-person.
I have completed equivalent education elsewhere before, can I transfer credits to an accounting program?
  • You may be eligible for course exemption if equivalent course work was completed with minimum C+ (65%) within the last five years through a public post-secondary institution in Canada.
What is the difference between a Prerequisite Approval and a Course Exemption?
  • You can request for a prerequisite approval if you need an override for the prerequisite requirement to register for a course. For example, BSAD 1084 is a required prerequisite in order to register for BSAD 1085, meaning that students must complete BSAD 1084 or equivalent with minimum C+ (65%) before registering for BSAD 1085. If student have completed a course that’s equivalent to BSAD 1084, then the student can request for prerequisite approval to register for BSAD 1085.
  • You can request for a course exemption if you have completed the equivalent course at another public institution in Canada with minimum C+ (65%) within the last five years. Course exemptions allows student to ‘bypass’ that course requirement in the program.
I have registered for a course, what textbook do I need to purchase and how can I find it?
  • Some courses do not have mandatory textbooks - to check if your course has required textbooks, the costs, and to purchase, please use our online bookstore tool here. Under 'campus term', please select the month term (ie, Sep-Dec 2024). You can also purchase textbooks in-peson at our bookstore on campus.
I have registered for a course, how can I access the course content?
  • Most courses will use Brightspace, Langara's online course management system. Access to the registered course on Brightspace will start on the first day of class. Some online courses may also use Zoom, a free video conferencing software, to conduct live virtual class sessions. Students should ensure they have their student account informationand access to Brightspace prior to the beginning of the course.
When does my course access start and end on Brightspace?
  • Your course access on Brightspace begins on the first day of class and ends one week following the last day of class/final exam. Please ensure you save all necessary course files by the access end date as access cannot be reactivated.
