Application Process

Admission Requirements

This program is open to international and Canadian students who have completed B.C. Grade 12 or equivalent.

To apply for the Digital Music Production program you will need to submit the following:

1. Application Form

2. A Portfolio of Work.

Although our program is fully comprehensive with a ground-up approach, to ensure your place for registration we strongly urge applicants to have some basic experience with a musical instrument, DJ’ing or recording and/or sequencing with any music production software. We do have a waiting list, so applicants that can demonstrate some prior musical ability will be prioritized. Applicants can submit a recording of a performance, audio or video, or a song they produced in a DAW. An MP3 with your name and song title, a Soundcloud, Spotify or YouTube link are all acceptable for submission.

3. Letter of Intent (Personal Essay) Please also write a few sentences outlining your previous interest and experiences with music, and what skills you hope to develop most during the program.

4. Academic Transcripts. Applicants must submit official or original academic transcripts from their high school and/or post-secondary (college or university) education. If the transcripts are originally in a language other than English, an official exact English translation must be submitted in addition to the original transcript.

5. English Language Proficiency

Domestic Students

Students must demonstrate English-language proficiency with one of the following: 

Successful completion of B.C. Grade 12 English or Communications or equivalent with a minimum of 70% . Successful completion of a post-secondary English or Communications course for which Langara College awards transfer credit with a minimum of 70% or B

International Students

Students must demonstrate English-language proficiency with one of the following: 

TOEFL (Internet-based) with a total score of 80 or higher and a minimum of 20 in Listening, 20 in Reading, 19 in Speaking, and 21 in Writing 


Duolingo 110 

CAEL 60 overall with essay 60 

LPI (Language Proficiency Index) Level 4 with essay 24 

IB English A1 or A2 (HL or SL) with a score of 4

Advanced Placement o English Language and Composition with score of 3 o English Literature and Composition with score of 3 

LET (Langara English Test) Level 2 

Successful completion of LEAP 8

*Please note that students who have not completed Grade 12 or equivalent can still apply to this program, but they must be 19 years or older. Additionally, these students must submit a personal resume in addition to their completed application as described above.

Preparing Your Application

To complete your application, you will need:

  •   A completed application form for domestic or international students
  •   A portfolio of work (as listed in the Admission Requirements)
  •   A letter of intent/personal essay
  •   Academic transcripts
  •   Proof of English language proficiency (if applicable)

Application Fee

All domestic fees are $40 CAD

All international fees are $155 CAD  

Application Process

Step 1: Submit your completed application form through the Fee Payment Portal and pay your application fee. Email your supporting documents, including your portfolio, to

Step 2: Our staff will review your submission, including a specific review of the portfolio by a lead instructor in the program. 

Please note: Do not submit your application through EducationPlanner BC (EPBC).

Step 3: If accepted into the program, a letter of Offer of Admission will be sent by email, after your application is approved and all documents have been verified. Allow approximately 7-10 business days for processing of your application.

Step 4: Pay deposit*

Step 5: Receive a Letter of Acceptance by email. The Letter of Acceptance will be issued after the tuition fees for the first semester have been received.

Step 6: Apply for a Study Permit at the nearest Canadian embassy or visa office**

Step 7: Report to Langara College for your first day of class.

*Note: Tuition fees of International Students are non-refundable and non-transferable for the first semester, unless study permit is declined by the Canadian Visa office. **International students only, if applying from overseas.
