Eligibility
The Computer Skills for the Office Short Certificate Program (Online) is open to unemployed and underemployed (including part time and seasonal workers) immigrant and visible minority women who want to update their skills or make a career change.
You can apply for this program if you meet ALL of the following criteria:
☐ Living in BC
☐ Canadian Citizen OR ☐ Permanent Resident OR ☐ Protected person entitled to work in Canada (a work visa and study permit will be requested), including Ukrainian nationals in Canada under CUAET (Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel)
☐ At least 16 years of age, or older
☐ Self-identify as a woman
☐ Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
☐ Is currently Unemployed or Precariously Employed (part-time, casual, or on contract ending soon)
☐ NOT receiving duplicative financial supports from another provincially or federally funded labour market program
☐ Be ready to participate in the program starting on January 15, 2024
☐ Have reviewed the draft schedule (SEE ATTACHED) and able to participate in the program for the full duration, ending August 2024.
English Proficiency
English is the language of instruction at Langara College. You are required to demonstrate proficiency in the English language prior to admission to the Professional Bookkeeper Short Certificate Program. Here are the acceptable English proficiency levels:
- TOEFL (paper-based) with a total score of 550 or higher and an essay score of 4.0 or higher
- TOEFL (computer-based) with a total score of 213 or higher and an essay score of 4.0 or higher
- TOEFL (Internet-based) with a total score of 80 or higher and a minimum of 18 in Listening, 20 in Reading, 18 in Speaking, and 20 in Writing
- IELTS Academic 6.5
- Duolingo English Test with a score of 110 (see note b)
- CAEL 60 overall with essay 60
- LPI (Language Proficiency Index) Level 4 with essay 24
- Successful completion of LEAP Level 8
- Successful completion of B.C. Grade 12 English or Communications or equivalent
- Successful completion of a post-secondary English or Communications course for which Langara College awards transfer credit
- CLB 6 or above
