Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Below Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) applies to full-time international students/applicants of the Advanced Accounting Diploma Program. For (prospective) domestic students, please see the Domestic Accounting Students FAQ page.

How can I register for courses?
  • For international students in the Advanced Accounting Diploma program, courses are pre-assigned each semester – students will not need to self-register for courses unless instructed otherwise.
I have completed equivalent courses elsewhere before, can I transfer credits to this program?
  • You may be eligible for course exemption in the program if equivalent course work was completed with minimum C+ (65%) within the last five years through a public post-secondary institution in Canada.
What is the difference between a Prerequisite Approval and a Course Exemption?
  • You can request for a prerequisite approval if you need an override for the prerequisite requirement to register for a course. For example, BSAD 1084 is a required prerequisite in order to register for BSAD 1085, meaning that students must complete BSAD 1084 or equivalent with minimum C+ (65%) before registering for BSAD 1085. If student have completed a course that’s equivalent to BSAD 1084, then the student can request for prerequisite approval to register for BSAD 1085.
  • You can request for a course exemption if you have completed the equivalent course at another public institution in Canada with minimum C+ (65%) within the last five years. Course exemptions allows student to be exempted from having to take a specific course in a program.
What happens if I do not pass a course in the program?
  • Majority of courses in the program have prerequisites, which requires the student to pass and achieve a minimum grade of C+ or 65% in order to proceed to subsequent courses. Students unable to meet this minimum will not be permitted to advance to the next course. For instance, students who do not pass BSAD 1086 will not be able to advance to BSAD 2088. Furthermore, students might need to enroll in courses outside of the program to maintain full-time status if they are not eligible to take any other courses in the program in a given semester.
I am starting the program soon, how will I access the content for my courses?
  • Most courses will use Brightspace, Langara's online course management system. Access to the registered course on Brightspace will start on the first day of class. Some online courses may also use Zoom, a free video conferencing software, to conduct live virtual class sessions. Students should ensure they have their student account informationand access to Brightspace prior to the beginning of the course.
When does my course access start and end on Brightspace?
  • Your course access on Brightspace begins on the first day of class and ends one week following the last day of class/final exam. Please ensure you save all necessary course files by the access end date as access cannot be reactivated.
How and when can I see my course schedule?
  • You can view your course schedule by logging in to Student Information System, then:
    • Click ‘Students’ at the top menu.
    • Click ‘Continuing Studies’ in the middle of the page
    • Click ‘Semester Schedule by Day/Time/Room’
  • Students will be able to view their course schedule for the following semester approximately 1.5 months before the new semester starts, given that tuition are paid on time and course registrations are not delayed.
My course has just ended, when can I see my final grade?
  • It may take up to a few weeks for final grades to be ready for students view following the last class/final exam.
When do I need to pay my tuition fee?
  • The tuition deadline for current international students in the program can be found on the right side bar on this page. You will also receive reminder emails from the program coordinator to pay your tuition and the deadline to submit the payment. This email is sent out approximately two months prior to the new semester (except for the first semester, in which the tuition cost is automatically deducted from the commitment fee).
