Scholarships and Bursaries

Scholarships and Bursaries

Scholarships, awards, and bursaries are available for the general student population and there are some specifically for students in the Nutrition and Food Service Management Program.

A scholarship and/or an award is a gift of money based on performance. Each scholarship will have different criteria to be achieved. It is not always the best marks overall. It could be the best marks in a specific course, or greatest improvement. Langara scholarships do not need to be applied for, as they will be determined through comparison to the criteria. Scholarships given by other organizations do need application – and it is recommended that students search for opportunities to apply. The Canadian Society of Nutrition Management, for example, does have a scholarship that is distributed each September. Applications are due by July 31 of each year. Information for this scholarship can be found on their website.

Bursaries are also gifts of money that are based on need. Again, students can access funds through general student bursaries, or ones specifically for students in the Nutrition and Food Service Management Program. The deadline for the application of bursaries is usually the third week of the term, and payment is made approximately in Week 10. All students who are experiencing financial need should apply for a bursary, and be in communication with the Financial Aid office (phone 604.323.5376).
