Research Support

Your subject librarian can provide (or refer you to) one-on-one assistance with developing search strategies and identifying relevant databases available at Langara and other libraries.

For materials not available at Langara, the Library's Interlibrary Loans and Media Booking Services can obtain books, photocopied articles, videos, and films from other BC and out-of-province libraries for you. Although interlibrary loan service is free to you, on average Langara library pays $6.00 for each item requested. Therefore, when you are working on an extensive research project, we encourage you to take advantage of the in-person borrowing privileges offered to Langara faculty by other BC libraries including UBC and SFU

If your research is part of a program of study offered by another institution, we also recommend that you enquire about the library services and the resources available to you at that institution.

Keeping Up in Your Field

Your subject librarian will be glad to show you library research strategies for investigating a particular topic or for finding out what's new in your field. We can identify relevant catalogues, indexes, databases, and Internet resources, and assist you in using them.

Alert Services:

Many of our vendors provide an email or RSS services to alert you to new articles in specified journals or about a particular topic. New articles, full text when available, can be e-mailed directly to you. If you would like assistance with setting up alerts, contact Emma Lawson (5464) or your subject librarian.
