Employment Opportunity: Langara Women's Soccer Head Coach
Part Time Contract Position
The Department of Athletics & Campus Recreation is currently accepting applications for the position of Head Coach for its Intercollegiate Women’s Soccer program, for a one-year term. This contract is renewable.
Reporting to the Manager, Athletics and Campus Recreation, the Women’s Soccer coach will provide leadership to the program through the coaching, development, and recruitment required in organizing a competitive and successful team, while promoting the academic success of the student athletes under their supervision. The successful candidate will have values consistent with the high standards of the Department and Langara College and will ensure that the program abides by Langara College Policies as well as the CCAA and PACWEST Code of Ethics.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the recruitment and development of players, organizing and conducting practices, coaching league games, developing a competitive program that encourages sportsmanship, integrity, and teamwork.
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Lead, develop, evaluate, and prepare student athletes for successful competition.
Support student athletes’ academic journeys by referring them to appropriate College resources.
Lead the selection of promising student athletes within their specific sports program.
Maintain effective communication and administrative teamwork amongst coaches, players, and athletic staff.
Develop and implement both in-season and off-season training programs for athletes.
Organize, promote, and supervise fundraising activities as required.
Conduct the program within the rules and values of PACWEST, CCAA, and Langara policies and procedures.
Schedule and attend all practices, games, and team functions during the year. This includes evenings and weekends.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated abilities include strong communication, presentation, organizational, leadership, administrative, budget management, and interpersonal skills.
- The skill and ability to problem solve and exercise good judgment, take initiative, as well as maintain tact and composure in a highly competitive environment.
- Three to five years of experience coaching soccer, preferably at the post-secondary or senior high school level.
- NCCP High Performance or CSA National B License preferred.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field (master’s degree preferred). An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- In-depth knowledge of rules and regulations of the sport.
- Familiarity with the local and provincial sport community.
- Experience designing and delivering fundraising activities.
- Flexible schedule that allows for afternoon/evening practices and weekend travel.
- Must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Completion of a successful criminal record check will be required.
