Peter Helmus Instructor

Peter Helmus is a leader in British Columbia in the field of construction, having managed over 1,500 projects in his 30 years in the field from single family up to 5 storey multi-family condominium and townhome projects; new construction to ‘leaky condo restoration’. His roles have included everything up to Building Envelope Consultant and Site Supervisor. His work has received construction industry awards. He presently works as a Licensed Strata Manager and has been writing Depreciation Reports under the designation of Certified Reserve Planner since 2013. He has a deep knowledge and understanding of construction methods and is an experienced instructor who is able to make complicated issues easy to understand. He has served recently on the Board of Directors of the Vancouver chapter of the Real Estate Institute of Canada as its Education Director. Peter instructs Reading Technical Drawings 1 and 2, and Capital Improvement Planning.

David Owens Instructor

David is the Assistant Fire Chief of Prevention for the North Vancouver City Fire Department. He is a Registered Building Official previously working as a building inspector with the City and has 25 years of experience in the construction industry. David teaches Residential Construction and House Construction. Check out biography

Dennis has been teaching real estate finance and appraisal to aspiring Realtors® for over 15 years.  Dennis has held senior management positions with some of Canada’s largest banks. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from McMaster University and a Diploma in Urban Land Economics from UBC.  Dennis is a member of the Real Estate Institute of BC, and knows what it takes to succeed in the real estate industry. Dennis instructs the Real Estate Mathematics, Real Estate Finance, Real Estate Investment Analysis, and the Real Estate Math Tutorial course. He also provides tutorial courses for students in any UBC DULE program courses.

Charles Shen Instructor

Charles Shen

Charles received a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Calgary and a Bachelor’s degree in HVAC Engineering equivalency from University of Toronto. He also holds the Alberta certificates of Journeyman in Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Mechanic and 4# Class Power Engineer. Charles has worked as Instrument Tech in Foothills Medical Center, Calgary AB and as Building Engineer in other property management companies throughout AB and ON for many years. Currently Charles is the Operations & Maintenance Supervisor at FortisBC Alternative Energy Services, managing $75 million thermal and geothermal assets in BC. With 20 years extensive building and facility HVAC experience, Charles has a strong passion for the business of thermal and renewable energy. He has dedicated himself to the devotion of environmental sustainability. Charles is a licensed Professional Engineer in the province of British Columbia.
