Vancouver, BC - Langara College’s Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) program has received full recognition from the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia (CMTBC). The program achieved preliminary recognition in November 2013.
“We are very excited at Langara Continuing Studies to be the first public college in British Columbia recognized by the CMTBC,” said Daniel Thorpe, Dean, Continuing Studies. “I’d like to credit our Health and Human Services team for developing the RMT program, and for successfully steering it through the formal process. This is a just reward for their efforts and will provide our students with a great, practical credential to recognize the training they receive here.”
For Langara’s RMT students, full recognition of this young program is a testament to its quality. Full recognition also enables them to write CMTBC’s entry-to-practice exams and become registered massage therapists. Students benefit from being members of the Langara community, the availability of resources to support their education, and the high quality instructors that Langara is known for.
“We are optimistic that the college environment will play an important role in students’ professional development across Canada,” said Dr. Linda Turner, Manager, Continuing Studies Health and Human Services. “We are extremely proud at Langara College to provide excellence in complementary modalities of health care to the Canadian public.”
Massage therapy is a regulated profession in BC. Massage therapy education programs prepare students to write the entry-to-practice exams set forth by the governing body, the CMTBC. The first cohort of Langara students will graduate in December, 2015.
