Marc Rizzardo, 30 years a Falcon
Marc Rizzardo joined Langara College over 30 years ago to lead the men’s soccer program out of a two-year hiatus. Marc proved that he was up to the challenge and in the early years was, not only building a championship foundation for the program, but also simultaneously completing his degree in physiotherapy.
During his time at the helm of the Langara men's soccer program, Marc has led the team to great success. Marc's overall conference record proved to be an impressive 181-130-50, and his Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship record is 22-10. His teams have won four National Championships and seven Provincial Championships. Marc has been named PACWEST Coach of the Year seven times, and CCAA Coach of the Year three times. Under his leadership, his players have flourished and taken home hundreds of individual awards, including but not limited to, six CCAA Academic All-Canadian Awards, five CCAA National Scholar Awards, 15 CCAA All-Canadian Awards, and 87 PACWEST All-Star Awards.
Marc’s dedication to his craft leaves a lasting impression on the many student athletes he has coached. “Marc taught me what it took to succeed as a student. In my first year he was finishing his last year studying physiotherapy. He studied hard on our road trips,” said former Falcon and team captain from Coach Rizzardo’s first recruiting class in 1986, Mark Bragagnolo. “He was an incredible mentor to me, keeping me grounded while I was at Langara. I consider him a great role model, someone I look up to. He taught me coaching skills that I apply today when I coach my teams.”
Today, Marc’s impressive achievements extend far beyond the soccer pitch or Langara College. He is the owner and partner at Metrotown Physiotherapy and has a wealth of experience at sport’s highest level. Marc has been part of the Canadian medical team at an impressive five Olympic Games and, two Pan Am games and a Commonwealth Games. In his spare time, he teaches as Clinical Associate Professor at University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine, School of Physical Therapy. His commitment towards the sport has been recognized by Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame where he was inducted first as part of the 1984 National Men’s Soccer team in 2013 and then again as the recipient of the Brian Budd Award of Distinction in 2014.
Among his greatest achievements, he has raised three wonderful daughters with his wife Vicki. One of his daughters is on faculty at Langara College. Congratulations Marc for 30 years of service to the College as a coach, mentor, friend and leader!
Please join us in celebrating Marc’s 30 years of coaching at Langara by donating to help build the award established in his name, the Marc Rizzardo Athletic Scholarship. This award is designated to recognize student athletes for their athletic achievements. All donations received by December 15th will be matched by the Langara College Foundation, doubling your impact.

Falcons off to Nationals
Oct 29, 2018
As the adage goes: “Anything can happen in the Playoffs”. That was the case this past weekend in the PACWEST Provincial Tournament as the Langara College Falcons Men’s Soccer team took to the pitch against the Douglas College Royals. The Falcons were not only playing for a spot in the gold medal match, but a spot in the CCAA National Tournament.
Finishing 0-4 against the Royals in the regular season, Falcons play had to be top notch – and it was exactly that. After a brilliant strike in the 34th by defender James Millar, the Falcons held on to the lead until the last seconds of stoppage time, when the Royals equalized. Both extra time periods were scoreless, leading to the shootout where 5th year keeper Kevin Monk registered 3 saves cementing both his bid for Player of the Game and a berth in Nationals for the Falcons.
On Saturday, the Falcons played against the Capilano University Blues in the Gold medal match. Down 2-0, the Falcons’ relentless pressure was rewarded as PACWEST Rookie of the Year Emmanuel Ekeh scored in the 68th minute. The Blues would hold strong the remainder of the way despite numerous Falcons chances and go on to win the Gold.
The CCAA National Tournament will be hosted by Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI from November 7th to November 10th. The last time the Falcons competed in the CCAA National Tournament was in 2006, and last medaled in 2001.
