Equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) are foundational to who we are and what we believe in at Langara. Our policies and practices reflect the people we serve — you.

Our EDI framework guides our efforts

We use an EDI framework to make sure all students, staff, and community members feel welcome, valued, and supported. It helps us ensure that our education planning planning happens through an EDI-informed lens.

Our EDI commitment in action

Indigenous initiatives

We acknowledge that Langara College is on the traditional territory of Musqueam People. We’re honoured to be welcomed by them.

Indigenous education and services

We’re committed to increasing the success rates, representation, and retention of Indigenous students.

Indigenous students have culturally-relevant support through:

  • Indigenous counsellors who help with education, career, and personal areas, including starting college

  • Scholarships and bursaries, plus the opportunity for band sponsorship

  • Elders-in-Residence to provide support, guidance, and cultural teachings

  • Advocacy and support with band and tribal leadership, agencies, and community resources

  • A dedicated student gathering space to study, attend events, or rest

  • Community gatherings including ceremonies, performances, and an Indigenous graduation celebration

Truth and reconciliation commitments

Here’s how we’re responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC)’s calls to action:

  • We prioritize our relationship with Musqueam people

  • All staff train in intercultural competency, conflict resolution, human rights, and anti-racism

  • We observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day each year

We welcome all cultures to our community, with students from diverse backgrounds including international students from 100 countries.

Here are some ways we celebrate and recognize the diversity of our community:

We're in this together

Towards an equitable future.

Everyone deserves to be treated equally with respect and dignity. As part of Langara's commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), we want to provide inclusive spaces where our students feel welcomed and an integral part of the community.

I am passionate about supporting women, which I plan to do with my studies. Thanks to the generosity of donors, I am able to spend my time focusing on my education instead of worrying about my finances. - Faron, recipient of the Anne Latimer Memorial Bursary for Women

While the work for this has been ongoing, our priority and focus are to strive to be equitable where there is inequality and diversity and to be inclusive. As part of this work, the Langara College Foundation is working with several community partners to support students who identify as LGTBQIA2S+, BIPOC, and other minority groups and ensure accessibility for single parents and those with accessibility needs to study at Langara.
