Langara College is a leading provider of classroom-based real estate education. We offer programs and courses in property management, building management, appraisal, development, and social housing management. Certificate programs are flexible and self-paced, conveniently offered during evenings and weekends.

Our programs are recognized by the University of British Columbia, the Appraisal Institute of Canada, the Professional Association of Managing Agents, B.C. Non-Profit Housing Association, and BC Financial Services Authority.

The Certificate in Real Property Analyst provides a strong academic foundation in real estate investment analysis, combined with practical knowledge of the operating aspects of income-producing real estate.

The core courses examine the principles and techniques of real estate valuation, mathematics, investment analysis, and law. The elective courses offer students some latitude to develop their knowledge in different areas of related expertise, such as non-profit housing management, residential construction, and real estate investing.

Students may enroll in any individual course, subject to a prerequisite in the case of Real Estate Investment Analysis and Social Housing Management. To earn the certificate, students complete a total of 7 required courses and 3 elective courses.

  • PROP 1004 - Real Estate Law (39 hours)
  • PROP 1005 - Real Estate Appraisal (39 hours)
  • PROP 1020 - Real Estate Investment Analysis (39 hours)
  • PROP 1023 - Real Estate Finance (39 hours)
  • PROP 1024 - Real Estate Mathematics (39 hours)
  • PROP 1061 - Commercial Lease Analysis (15 hours)
  • PROP 1033 - Real Estate Development (15 hours)

Elective Courses (select 3)

  • PROP 1022 - Residential Construction (39 hours)
  • PROP 1030 - Social and Affordable Housing in BC (30 hours)
  • PROP 1052 - Social Housing Management (30 hours)
  • BSAD 1088 - Economics - Micro & Macro (39 hours)

The following 3 courses must all be completed to be counted as 1 elective:

  • PROP 1035 - Buying Income Property (9 hours)
  • PROP 1071 - Condo Investing (6 hours)
  • PROP 1072 - Commercial Property Investing (6 hours)

Note:  For details on Appraisal Institute of Canada designations and UBC programs in real estate, visit www.realestate.ubc.ca. Students who plan to transfer course credit from Langara College to UBC should discuss their education plan with UBC.

Credential Eligibility

To qualify for the certification, students must complete 306 hours of course work. Successful completion of all the required courses with a minimum C+ grade in each course is required. All requirements must be completed within four years of starting the program. Students can complete the program as quick as 3 terms (1 year). 

Courses may be taken individually as long as individual course prerequisites are met. Students completing the certificate do not need to apply to the program as registration is by course. There are no academic requirements for students to start the program.
