Establishing an award or supporting an existing scholarship fund for students is one way for donors to help students start and finish their degree with reduced financial strain and increased focus on their career.

The generosity of donors helps shape student lives. As a scholarship recipient, I know how much the support of donors can make students feel that they have accomplished something good, and that they are deserving.

It helped me financially, and I also feel prouder of my accomplishments and what I have achieved. As I go forward into the working world, I will remember this support and keep the feeling close to my heart. Without donors this would not have been possible.” - Tejinder Singh, Diploma in Business Management, Class of 2022

Your award may be named for you or in honour or memory of a family member, friend, organization, etc and can be either:

Endowed

Ensure that your award lives on in perpetuity

Looking to invest in a lasting legacy? Consider creating your own endowed award fund. It's a great way to ensure that your award exists in perpetuity assisting students now and for generations to come.

Your investment becomes a permanent asset (managed by the Langara College Foundation). The goal would be to achieve an annual growth of approximately 3.5% through the fund to be used to support the award. The award/fund may be named for you or in honour/memory of a family member, friend, organization or colleague.

Capital Investment    Approximate Annual Award Amount (based on 3.5%)
$25,000                       $800
$30,000                       $1,000
$50,000                       $1,750

* Subject to investment performance

Endowed award funds require that the gift be invested for at least one year before recipients are selected for an award. Donors may also choose to provide an additional contribution to begin the award without delay. You may choose to endow new awards at levels that substantially exceed the above minimums, keeping in mind the expenses students face annually for tuition fees, textbooks, and living expenses. As an alternative, you may initially establish an endowment at the above levels and then add to it over time to provide a growing level of award support.

Endowed awards may take the following forms:

  • Scholarships - which recognize outstanding students, who have achieved a high academic standing. They may be created to support students beginning their post-secondary education through entrance scholarships (based on high-school grades) or for their achievements within a specific department while attending Langara.
  • Bursaries - which support students in financial need. They assist students with expenses as they pursue their academic program.
  • General Awards - which recognize non-academic achievements while at Langara or in the broader community in combination with demonstrated financial need.

Annual

Fund your award on a year-to-year basis

Prefer to fund your award on a year-to-year basis? Consider creating an annual fund. All it takes is a minimum three-year minimum commitment of $1,500 to start.
