Carolina Gonzalez Sanmiguel's journey from Ecuador to Canada has been a testament to her resilience and ambition. With a Bachelor’s in Graphic Design and Visual Communication and a Post-Degree Diploma in Marketing Management from Langara College, Carolina has navigated diverse fields, from advertising to consulting, and now to education, accumulating over eight years of experience in Communications. When she enrolled in Langara College, she was keen on expanding her networking skills, prompting her to join the Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) program during her final term. Her involvement in the Langara Management in Motion Club allowed her to cultivate her leadership and project management abilities, ultimately enhancing her current role as a Marketing and Events Coordinator at LaSalle College Vancouver.

Eager for personal and professional growth, Carolina was inspired to apply for the LOT program after hearing about it from a classmate. Throughout her experience as a mentee, she seized every opportunity to learn, from attending workshops on AI, sustainability, and law, to volunteering with the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade (GCBT). Her mentor, Nate Toevs, played a pivotal role in guiding her through this transformative year, helping her navigate the challenges of building a career in a new country. Carolina’s dedication and proactive engagement earned her the 2023-2024 Mentee of the Year Award from the Leaders of Tomorrow program at the GVBT, a recognition she cherished not just for the accolade but for the incredible connections and experiences gained along the way.

Reflecting on her time in the LOT program, Carolina recognizes that her greatest achievement was fostering a supportive network. Inspired by her experiences, she introduced the LOT program to LaSalle College, paving the way for future students to join the cohort. Winning the award opened doors for meaningful conversations and opportunities, allowing her to further engage with the community as Co-Chair of the LOT Advisory Committee. Looking ahead, Carolina aspires to secure a leadership role while continuing her commitment to volunteering and supporting emerging leaders in her field.

As she actively stays involved with Langara and the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, Carolina emphasizes the importance of nurturing connections and stepping out of comfort zones. Her message is clear: embrace the journey, prepare for opportunities, and remain engaged with the community. Being part of the Langara alumni network holds special significance for Carolina, as it connects her with like-minded professionals and lifelong friends. Ultimately, she embodies the ethos of going the extra mile -- breaking the glass ceiling -- and encourages others to do the same, reminding everyone that the foundation for future success begins with today’s actions.

“Networking may seem hard and scary at first, but once you start, you won’t stop! I encourage you to prepare your elevator pitch, and your business card, open a LinkedIn account, and most importantly, realize that right here, right now, you are already building the foundation for your future. I invite you to connect with me on LinkedIn—find me as Carolina Gonzalez Sanmiguel.”
