Vancouver, BC - Langara Alumni & Community Engagement is very proud to announce the launch of an on-campus Toastmasters initiative for members of the Langara community. The goal of the program is to help students, alumni, faculty, staff, and our surrounding community improve their public speaking and leadership skills.

"I believe joining a Toastmasters Club is one of the best ways to grow and develop in your career, regardless of the field you work in”, said Manuela Klick, Co-op & Career Development Centre Instructor and experienced Toastmaster. “Giving regular speeches has taken my speaking and listening skills to a level that I could not have achieved anywhere else. The atmosphere is always supportive, fun and engaging. What I find especially helpful is giving each other feedback and being inspired by the speeches that happen every week. Toastmasters is also a great way to be connected to a wide range of people and learn from other professions."

The Toastmaster initiative is co-sponsored by Co-operative Education, People Services, International Education, the Office of Student Engagement, and Alumni and Community Engagement departments. Membership will be open to everyone in the Langara community (current students, alumni, employees, and general public). Subsidies will be offered to students, alumni, and employees to minimize any monetary barriers to participate.

“Alumni is very excited to be part of this initiative,” said Yvonne Ohara, Manager, Alumni and Community Engagement. “We are looking forward to offering such an internationally well-regarded professional development opportunity to our community.”
