Two Langara Journalism alumnae were honoured at last night’s Business in Vancouver Forty Under 40 Awards gala.
Langara Journalism diploma graduates Jennifer Maloney Adab and Laura Murray were recognized for their success and contributions to the public relations (PR) and marketing industries in Vancouver.
The annual awards, coordinated by Business in Vancouver, recognize the top business achievements among British Columbians. Winners are under 40 years old and have demonstrated excellence in business, judgment, leadership, and community contribution.
Laura Murray, a graduate of the program in 2003,went on to start her own full-service marketing agency, Murray Paterson Marketing Group, after spending years working in public relations. The Murray Paterson Marketing Group focuses exclusively on arts and culture.
Jennifer Maloney Adab, graduated in 2004 and has helped found some of Vancouver’s major PR firms including Talk Shop Media and Yulu Public Relations Inc. Her latest venture, Brix Media Co., is Canada’s first PR and influencer marketing firm focused on innovation.
“It’s an exceptional honour to be recognized alongside peers and colleagues whom I know put an extraordinary amount of time, dedication and hard work into both their respective fields and community,” says Maloney Adab. “Often we get so embroiled in the day-to-day hustle of our lives that we forget to look back and celebrate our successes and far we’ve come.”
Maloney Adab added, “The Langara journalism program was instrumental in shaping my career. From agonizing over your a story lead, to asking open interview questions, or learning all the intricate rules of spelling and grammar, before breaking them - the program really prepared me for my career in journalism. If I hadn't had that background or the experience of working as a journalist, I wouldn't be anywhere near as skilled in PR.”
Other recipients included Langara School of Management guest lecturer JC Fraser, General Manager of the Vancouver Canadians baseball team.
Recipients of this year’s awards were honoured at a gala dinner at the Vancouver Convention Centre on Wednesday, January 25. Learn more about this year’s winners on the BIV website.
