Are you currently a supervisor or wanting to become one? Enhance your communication skills along with your ability to lead and motivate employees. Explore ways to deal more effectively with difficult people and situations. Through this weekend seminar program's combination of discussion, group work, case studies, and role plays you will develop the practical skills needed to realize your full potential as a manager, supervisor or front-line leader.

 

The central focus of the management skills course delivery is student learning. In the online offering, asynchronous course delivery is to maximize flexibility for the learner and help address individual learning needs and styles. Courses are delivered online via Brightspace over a period of four weeks with weekly learning activities. Students will be able to access the entire course on the mentioned course start date; learners don't need to be online on that specific date or any specific date or time during the course. Students can do the course at their own pace between the course start and end date. The instructor will be available on Brightspace and email to support any student.

 

Required Courses (48 hours, 4.8 CEUs):

  • Leading & Managing Employees (12 hours, 1.2 CEUs)
  • Communicating Effectively (12 hours, 1.2 CEUs)
  • Managing for Success (12 hours, 1.2 CEUs)
  • Managing in Conflict (12 hours, 1.2 CEUs)

Courses may be taken individually in any order or as part of the overall program. All activity materials are included and distributed in class.

 

There are no exemptions
All program requirements must be completed at Langara Continuing Studies. Exemtptions are not allowed. No refunds are granted once the course has started. 

 

Credential Eligibility:
Students who began Management Skills Program courses prior to September 2022 will have until December 2022 to receive the original certificate credential. Students who began courses on or after September 2022 will not be eligible for a credential.

Are you looking to advance your career even further? The Short Certificate in Advanced Management Skills program highlights practical exposure of training in personal and organizational success for managers. The program will enhance your decision-making skills required as a manager, identify gaps and help you understand how managerial decisions impact business strategy. Learners will learn to lead and motivate teams and employ best practices that will equip managers to succeed.

The central focus of the advanced management skills course delivery is student learning. Each course is delivered synchronously allowing students to interact with the instructor and other learners. Courses are delivered online via Zoom and Brightspace. 

Required Courses: 

  • Human Resources Management (36 hours)
  • Change Management (12 hours)
  • Performance Management (12 hours)
  • Labour Relations (12 hours)

Credential Eligibility
To qualify for the certification, students must complete successfully all the required and elective courses with a minimum C+ grade requirement in each course. All requirements must be completed within five years of starting the program. Students can complete the program as quick as two terms.
Courses may be taken individually as long as individual course prerequisites are met. Students completing the certificate do not need to apply to the program as registration is by course. There are no academic requirements for students to start the program.


Students who began the program prior to September 2022 will have until August 2023 to receive a certificate credential. Students who began the program September 2022 onwards will receive a short certificate credential.
