Overview:

In collaboration with community, West Coast LEAF uses litigation, law reform, and public legal education to create social change. We use the law as a strategy to work towards an equal and just society by challenging gender-based discrimination. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped bring about some of Canada’s most important feminist victories for reproductive rights, workplace standards, fairness in family law, legal protections from sexual harassment, and more.

 

Equality Breakfast 2023 Day of Volunteer

Position Description:

Are you passionate about gender equality and social justice? Would you like to contribute to the success of a large-scale fundraising event?West Coast LEAF is looking for volunteers to help with day-of organization of our annual fundraising event, the 2023 Equality Breakfast on Wednesday, March 8th, 2023, at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.West Coast LEAF works to advance equality in BC for women and people who are discriminated against because of their gender. We do this through legal education programs, advocating for law reform, and conducting equality rights litigation. The Equality Breakfast is West Coast LEAF’s largest annual event, and the biggest fundraiser for gender equality in the province. We need your assistance to make it happen!The volunteer roles will include:• Silent Auction Attendant/Processoro Assist guests in bidding on silent auction items and using our virtual silent auction platform, andensure guests receive their winnings at the end of the event• Fund Developmento Facilitate the fundraising portion of the event by collecting cheques and pledge cards from guests• Ushero Showing guests where to find their tables and answering any questions about seating

 

Time Commitment:• Attend ONE of the mandatory orientation sessions at our Vancouver office:Thursday, February 16th, 6pm -8pm ORTuesday, February 28th, 6pm- 8pm• An early start! Required Skills and Experience:

- Passion for gender equality and social justice- Attendance at one mandatory orientation session- Interest or experience in working for a non-profit and/or fundraising for a non-profit organization (not required but preferred)

 

Benefits and Recognition:

Volunteering for this event is a fantastic opportunity to network with people in the gender-justice sector, as well as lawyers, judges, and politicians. Volunteers will also be able to hear the keynote speaker, acclaimed scholar of race, gender, and law, Dorothy E. Roberts, whose scholarship and advocacy have been vital inspiration to our work to transform the family policing system. In addition, we will provide a letter of reference upon request, one year of complimentary membership at West Coast LEAF, and acknowledgement in the Equality Breakfast program.
