Leading change across CanadaVisionTo develop innovative, evidence-informed education, improve workforce development and strengthen care practices to support care for seniors and their care partners across Canada.MissionOur mission at the Canadian Institute for Seniors Care is to build a national collaboration to promote high quality care for seniors.We do this through:- Linking organizations and industry to promote partnership between seniors, their care partners, health care professionals, students, educators, researchers and other stakeholders.- Enabling education, care practices and system change through the promotion of evidence-informed practices for quality improvement, productivity and sustainability.- Establishing a national knowledge mobilization network to support workforce development in seniors care.

 

"Open Minds, Open Hearts" Program Volunteer

Position Description:

Open Minds, Open Hearts (OMOH) is a two-year project which aims to create awareness and reduce the stigma of dementia by fostering social cohesion and a sense of belonging among college students, people living with dementia (PLWD) and their care partners. This project is a collaboration between three colleges across Canada, including the College of New Caledonia in British Columbia, École nationale de cirque (National Circus School) in Quebec, and Conestoga College in Ontario.OMOH will consist of student-led programs hosted by each college. People living with dementia and their caregivers will participate in weekly engagement sessions led by students. These intergenerational group activities will highlight various subjects including culinary arts, celebrating culture, languages and the arts, exploring nature, and promoting physical well-being.Students are welcome to apply here: www.conestogac.on.ca/omohA program coordinator will be in touch to setup a 15-minute meeting to get to know you and identify how you would like to engage in the program (online or in-person).

 

Required Skills and Experience:

No mandatory qualifications are required - any student registered with a post-secondary institution may apply. That said, students are encouraged to feel comfortable leading activities with people they don't know (specifically older adults). Communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills are encouraged but not mandatory.
