Langara believes that everyone has the right to be treated with respect on campus. We are committed to ensuring that all members of the college – be it student, faculty, or employee – are be able to learn, teach and work in an environment free from harassment, discrimination, and violence, sexual or otherwise.
In February 2017, Langara College officially announced a standalone college-wide sexual violence and misconduct policy. Langara's Sexual Violence and Misconduct Policy (PDF) was developed through a working committee of students, faculty, and employees, and was officially approved by Langara College President Lane Trotter on January 24, 2017.
From February to August 2017, the College began the first phase of implementing the policy through outlining and planning an awareness campaign as well as developing resource materials and a dedicated website for students for students to learn more about sexual violence and consent. The second phase will begin in the fall and includes the execution of the awareness campaign for students as well as the launch of an employee-based pilot program focused on responding to students who disclose.
We encourage all students to learn more about what constitutes sexual violence and consent. Please visit the new Sexual Violence and Support Services website to learn more about the Sexual Violence and Misconduct Policy as well as to learn about the student resources we have available.
