General Questions

Parchments are issued three times a year following the parchment issue timeline noted on the Graduation Process page. Parchments are available for pickup up at the Registrar & Enrolment Services Office for approximately three to four weeks after issuance.

Students will be emailed to notify them when parchments are available for pickup. For students who do not pick up their parchment during the designated pick up timeframe, their parchments will be mailed to the address on file. Please ensure that your mailing address is up-to-date! You can do this by reviewing your personal information on the Langara Student Information System (SIS). Students who are current or past employees of Langara College who need to update their address must do so through Workday.

Yes! If you completed your program in August 2021, December 2021, or April 2022 and have received your parchment, you can still attend the Convocation Ceremonies to celebrate your achievements.

Lifetouch is offering studio sessions at their Burnaby location from May 30–June 17. Book today.

There is no fee to attend Langara Convocation Ceremonies. There are fees associated with applying for graduation at Langara and renting regalia.

Graduation is the process where the College confirms you are eligible to receive your credential and provides you with a parchment. Convocation is an optional, celebratory event where you can cross the stage and celebrate your achievement with the College community and your guests.

Attendance at the ceremony is not mandatory.

Parchments are distributed separately from Convocation. See the parchment issue timeline on the Graduation Process page and reach out to the Graduation Team at gradeval@langara.ca if you have any questions regarding parchment pick up.

Tickets and Regalia

If you will no longer be attending Convocation, please email convocation@langara.ca so that your tickets may become available for other graduates who wish to attend.

The regalia booking system closed on May 30, 2022.

All graduates attending the Convocation Ceremonies must wear regalia to cross the stage (with some exceptions). Students who didn't reserve regalia by May 30 will be charged an additional late rental fee at convocation.

Graduates will receive their regalia when they arrive at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre for convocation and will return it after the ceremony has concluded.

For more information about renting regalia, please contact Harcourts at info@harcourts.com or by calling 416.977.4408.

In round one graduating students can order a maximum of two guest tickets to the Convocation Ceremony in addition to their own graduate ticket.

Tickets to convocation are complimentary and no purchase is required.

The second round of ticketing closed on May 30, 2022. If you have any questions about tickets, please email convocation@langara.ca.

Please note, if you receive the message "ERROR: A ticket with the requested concession Guest could not be given due to the restrictions on its application not being met." that indicates the ceremony has sold out.

We can provide students attending convocation with a letter noting their eligibility to graduate is approved (for those who have already completed their program) or approved pending the successful completion of their currently registered courses (for those in their final semester). Please submit a Confirmation of Eligibility to Graduate Letter Request through the Langara Fee Portal. Under the 'Purpose of the Letter' section, please select 'other' and write in 'visitor visa for convocation' as the reason. Please note that you must also submit a graduation application if you have not already done so.

An usher at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre will guide mobility-impaired guests to the best accessible route based upon the guest's current location.

About the Event

Each ceremony lasts approximately two hours.

Everyone attending the convocation ceremonies must stay for the duration of the ceremony. We anticipate the ceremony will last approximately two hours from procession to recession, and during this time, graduates aren't able to leave their place in the line/theatre.

Guests need to arrive 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to the ceremony start time. Click here to view the full ceremony schedule.

Please wear shoes you are comfortable walking in! The ceremony will require you to walk up and down stairs and will require standing for a period of time.

All graduands will be required to wear academic regalia to cross the stage (with some exceptions). Academic regalia consists of a black gown and mortarboard (grad cap). A hood, stole, or tippet will be worn depending on the credential you are graduating with. To view Langara academic regalia, please visit the regalia guide here.

Students are welcome to wear ceremonial First Nations' regalia, law enforcement, or armed forces formal dress uniform in place of or with Langara regalia. If you will be wearing any of these alternatives, please email convocation@langara.ca to confirm your attendance.
