Bursaries available for journalism students

Penny Wise Bursary (application required)

Former Vancouver Sun reporter Evelyn A. Caldwell, who wrote a consumer column under the name Penny Wise, provided funds for a bursary totaling $750 available to students enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours in the Journalism Program. Students must apply for the bursary and demonstrate financial need. The bursary may be split among several students if circumstances warrant. Students must apply to the Financial Aid department.

The beat 94.5fm Bursary

Donations are generously provided by The Beat95fm radio for financial assistance to Langara College journalism students. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate and interest in and aptitude for broadcasting. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. Application must be made to Financial Aid.

Gwyn and Aileen Gunn Journalism Bursaries

To qualify for the following bursaries, students must be registered full-time in the Journalism Program at Langara College.  If the students are not full-time, they must have previously completed the course or courses required in the relevant semester.  Students must be in good standing and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5. Application must be made to Financial Aid. The following bursaries will normally be available:

Two Certificate Program Entrance Bursaries.  Students must be accepted and registered in the Journalism Certificate Program at Langara College and must demonstrate financial need with the submission of a bursary application to Financial Aid.

Two Diploma Program Entrance Bursaries.  Students must be accepted and registered in the Journalism Diploma Program at Langara College and must demonstrate financial need with the submission of a bursary application to Financial Aid.

Two Certificate Program Second Term Bursaries.  Students must be registered in the second term of the Certificate Program and must demonstrate financial need through the submission of a bursary application to Financial Aid.

Two Diploma Program Second Term Bursaries. Students must be registered in the second term of   the Diploma Program and must demonstrate financial need through the submission of a bursary application to Financial Aid.

Two Diploma Program Third Term Bursaries.  Students must be registered in the third term of the Diploma Program and must demonstrate financial need through the submission of a bursary application to Financial Aid.

Two Diploma Fourth Term Bursaries.  Students must be registered in the fourth term of the Diploma Program and must demonstrate financial need through the submission of a bursary application to Financial Aid.

Journalism Emergency Bursaries.   To provide financial assistance to Langara College Journalism students who demonstrate financial need and provide documentation of their emergency financial need.

 

Bursary values vary, as follows:

Entrance, Certificate Second Term and Diploma Second, Third and Fourth Term Bursaries are $750 each.

Emergency Bursaries – Varies – as required by student’s emergency.  Total amount each year to be funds available after allocation of other bursaries for this fund.
