Since 2014, Langara College has served as the Vancouver venue for a two and a half year University of Northern British Columbia Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree program for full-time students. Classes will be offered in a mixed delivery model and include weekday evenings, weekends, and online classes. It will also include two practica that will take place in the fall of 2019 and 2020. As this will be a cohort program, it will provide rich networking and relationship building opportunities. UNBC’s Social Work program acknowledges the holistic, interdisciplinary, and activist nature of social work and its commitment to social justice. Incorporating critical social thinking including structural, feminist, and anti-racist analyses, the program strongly connects practice with theory; it strives to develop critical self-awareness in students, and respect for the ideas of others. The UNBC BSW program is designed to prepare students for beginning level, generalist social work practice with individuals, families, groups, and communities. This unique delivery of a BSW program is ideally suited for working professionals. Students will be able to complete the program without leaving the Lower Mainland.
