Help Celebrate Gail Sparrow’s birthday

Our College community is forever grateful for the contributions that Gail Sparrow has made and continues to make.

In recognition of Gail's birthday in March, and for her years of dedication to snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara College, we are launching a Tribute Appeal to create an award in her name.  The Gail Sparrow Indigenous Education Award will be given annually to an Indigenous student, with preference to those of Coast Salish background.

Please honour Gail and consider making a donation to make this award a reality.

Gail is a former Chief of the Musqueam Indian Band. An alumna of Langara, she currently serves as Special Advisor to the President snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara College, helping to guide the work of Indigenization, decolonization, and the continued relationships with Musqueam. She plays a key role in strengthening the connection between Musqueam and the College, educating the Langara community on the history, culture, and teachings of Musqueamand the land on which the College is located.

In 2016, Gail worked with Musqueam and facilitated Langara receiving its Musqueam name, snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓, which means house of teachings. Gail lives by the words reconciliACTION and when you hear her speak she holds those of us working and living on unceded Musqueam territory accountable to this.

We invite you to join us in celebrating Gail’s Birthday by donating to help establish this new award in her name.  This award will ensure that we continue to honour her, while financially supporting Indigenous learners at snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara College.

Donate and send your congratulations below. All donations to Gail's fund will be matched until March 31, 2022.
