Article 9.4.1.2      For pregnancy and parental leave benefits of the Employment Standards Act to apply, the pregnant faculty member must ensure the appropriate certificates of a duly qualified medical practitioner are provided to the President of the College or delegate, as indicated in that Act.

 

Article 9.4.2.3.1   A faculty member applying for adoption leave must furnish proof of legal adoption of a child.

Appendix I         To receive Supplemental Employment Benefit payment, the faculty member shall provide the College with proof of receipt of Employment Insurance benefits.

You will receive a supplemental payment added to   Employment Insurance (EI) benefits as follows:

(a)       *the   first 6 weeks of pregnancy leave a faculty member shall receive 100% of her   salary calculated on her average base salary over the past 26 weeks.

(b)      a   maximum of 11 additional weeks of pregnancy leave the faculty member shall   receive an amount equal to the difference between the EI benefits and 55% of   her salary calculated on her average base salary over the past 26 weeks.

(c)       up to   a maximum of 35 weeks of parental leave, the birth mother shall receive an   amount equal to the difference between the EI benefits and 75% of the faculty   member’s salary calculated on her average base salary over the past 26 weeks.

You will receive a supplemental payment added to Employment   Insurance (EI) benefits. For up to a maximum of 37 weeks of parental leave,   the birth father, adopting parent or spouse shall receive an amount equal to   the difference between the EI benefits and 75% of the faculty member’s salary   calculated on the faculty member’s average base salary over the past 26   weeks.

College Pension Plan

Maternity and parental leave top-up pay (SEB) is   included in pensionable salary.  The   College will remit employee and employer contributions on the top-up salary   at the usual rates and report the proportionate pensionable service to the   Pension Corporation.  Employees choosing to purchase the balance of the pregnancy and parental leave will be responsible for employee contributions and the College will remit employer contributions.  Service may be   purchased within 5 years of the end of the leave period or within 30 days of   terminating employment, whichever is earlier.

*Note: Effective January 1, 2017, the Employment Insurance (EI) waiting period for pregnancy and parental leaves was reduced from two weeks to one week. Although total number of weeks of EI benefits payable will not change, the claimant will now:

  • Receive EI payments one week earlier than previously

  • Not receive EI benefits in their last week (depending on the type of leave/situation, that would be week 17, 37 or 52)
