Eligibility:
Article XV.F.2. An employee must request parental leave in writing and provide a doctor's certificate stating the estimated date of birth or a certificate stating the date of adoption.
Article XV.F.4 A pregnant employee can start parental leave eleven weeks before the expected date of birth or at a later date if the employee so desires.
Article XV.F.5. If an employee gives birth before a request for parental leave is made and she requests a leave and provides a certificate from her doctor stating that she has given birth on a specified date, the College will grant her parental leave.
Article XV.F.18.c. To receive the Supplemental Employment Benefits, the employee shall provide the College with proof of receipt of EI Benefits.

Maternity and parental leave top-up pay (SEB) is included in pensionable salary. The College will remit employee and employer contributions on the top-up salary at the usual rates and report the proportionate pensionable service to the Pension Corporation. Employees choosing to purchase the balance of the pregnancy and parental leave will be responsible for employee contributions and the College will remit employer contributions. Service may be purchased within 5 years of the end of the leave period or within 30 days of terminating employment, whichever is earlier. |

*Note: Effective January 1, 2017, the Employment Insurance (EI) waiting period for pregnancy and parental leaves was reduced from two weeks to one week. Due to the reduction of the EI waiting period, payments under the Supplemental Employment Benefit plan and EI benefits, when combined, may exceed the allowable limit (100% of employee’s normal weekly earnings) in the week following the waiting period (week 2) and, normally, EI benefits would be reduced for that week. To allow organizations to adjust to the new EI waiting period, the allowable limit in the week following the waiting period has increased during the transition period between January 1, 2017 – January 2, 2021. Please see the example below:
