Mentorship Requirements

Mentorship Requirements

Mentorship Requirements:

1) Criminal Record Check is required for all students in the Langara Therapeutic Touch Mentorship and Continued Exploration courses. Your CRC must be valid for the duration of the Mentorship/Continued Explorations course that you are enrolled in. Please note that the approval process may take 2-5 weeks(although sometimes much less), depending on each individual application. For this reason we encourage you to begin this process early. Note: your instructor may need to verify your government issued identification to your approved CRC.

  • Recommended and Preferred Process:  Complete the criminal record check online via the BC Government website: https://justice.gov.bc.ca/eCRC/home.htm. You will require a designated program code which is requested at the bottom of the page at this link. Please request the code from the instructor or program coordinator once you are registered for your TT Mentorshiop program, and/or Continued Explorations. Payment is accepted by credit card. Fee is approximately $30
  • If online criminal record check process above is not accepted:  Email csgeneral@langara.ca or your instructor at clarden@shaw.ca for the appropriate form and information on your next step. Please see the government's website for details on why an online application may not be accepted.
  • Criminal Record Check Sharing:  If you have a current criminal record check for Vulnerable Adults, that will be valid for the entire length of the Thereapeutic Touch Mentorship/Continued Explorations course then you may use the CRC Sharing form at https://justice.gov.bc.ca/eCRC/home.htm. Email csgeneral@langara.ca or clarden@shaw.ca to request this code once registered in the your TT course.
  • Additional Option for CRC: Alternately you may instead visit your local Police/RCMP to complete the CRC process in person through them. Email your instructor at clarden@shaw.ca for information to include on your manual application. Please note this option must be done in person at police station (versus online through the ministry website) and is more expensive.

2) Completion of online course: Student Practice Education: Privacy and Confidentiality

  • This course is part of an orientation package called SPECO. You are required to complete the section on Confidentiality. Please allow 1-2 hours for completion. You will need to sign in using your Langara College email which you can locate from your mylangara account, or by contacting the registration office at 604.323.5322. Please print off/scan the completion certificate and email to your instructor at clarden@shaw.ca. Instructions for accessing this course can be found on to PHSA Learning Hub website at: https://learninghub.phsa.ca/ .  You will have to set up a user account with the following information:

    • Note: There is a 10 question multiple choice exam at the end which you can take multiple times. Remember to save as instructed as you go along and note that it is best to review content and complete exam at one time to avoid tech issues with returning to program later to complete.

3) A negative TB skin test: A negative TB skin test or a clear/normal chest x-ray report, within the last 3 months: If you have ever been vaccinated for TB, had a positive TB skin test in the past, or if you are unable to have a TB skin test, you will need to provide documentation of a clear/normal chest  x-ray. A copy of these results should be provided to your instructor. This is available through some medical clinics or travel clinics.

4) Therapeutic Touch Shirt: Langara College Bookstore has the required shirts with the Langara logo and Therapeutic Touch on it. Please contact Fran Allan, Bookstore Manager, at 604-323-5966 or at fallan@langara.ca to arrange purchase. The shirts are custom ordered so please place your orders as soon as possible with a pick-up time of approximately one week prior to the start of the first class. Placing one order helps to cut down on the costs of shipping.

5) Langara College student ID that says "CS Therapeutic Touch Student" – This will be required before you start. You must be registered in the course before you are able to pick this up. It may take a few days after registration before this is available. It can be obtained at the Main Campus – 100 W. 49th Avenue in C265 - Instructional Media Services. Please note this is not the regular student ID card, it is as above for access to health care facilities. There is a cost of $6.00, which needs to be paid at the finance office before picking up your ID. The finance office is located on the second floor of the B building.

6) Membership in BC Therapeutic Touch Network Society (BCTTNS). The fee for that is $30.00 for a first time member or $60.00 for a renewing member. The forms are available at the bottom of the page. This is to be done after Therapeutic Touch Level 1.
