Courtney Sheppard is a first year central midfielder from Port Moody, BC. With Langara sitting 2 points out of a
playoff spot, this home and away weekend with their travel partner would prove to be and important one. Sheppard
had an outstanding weekend helping her Falcons secure two very much needed victories against Quest.
In Saturday's match against Quest, Sheppard proved to be a massive thorn in the side for the Kermodes. Her ability
to run and defenders and to slip deft passes to her strikers allowed the Falcons to gain control and dominate the
match from the outset. After the Falcons took a 1-0 lead, it was Sheppard’s perfectly curled ball that found the foot
of a fellow Langara teammate in between two defenders allowing Lauren Tasaka to finish, giving Langara a 2-0 lead
they would not relinquish.
In Sunday’s rematch in Squamish, it was very much the same as Langara applied high pressure to Quest and didn't
allow them play. Sheppard's tireless work in the centre of the park was a major reason why Quest was not able to
generate much of an attack. Sheppard would score in the 50th minute when she hit a high shot over the head of the
Quest goalkeeper giving Langara a 1-0 lead that they would again not relinquish.
The two wins gave Langara a huge six point weekend, vaulting them into second place in the conference standings. The
Falcons hit the road for matches against Vancouver Island University and Capilano University, October 6th and 7th.
