Hailing from Calgary and in his 1st year with the Falcons, computer science student Imran Wadia has proven to be one of the top male contenders in the PACWEST league. At this past weekend’s tournament hosted by Langara College, Imran had strong performances in both the Men's doubles and Men's singles events. Imran was also a contributor in helping the Falcons come to an overall team 1st place finish.
Imran paired up with veteran Eric Chiu to battle in the men's doubles event, where they came out on top in the preliminary round. In their first knockout round, they beat out opponents Low/Cheung from KPU (21-19, 21-17). The second round was not going to be easy as the VIU duo of Robb/Liew had beaten the Falcons in October. This time the Falcons took the game with a score of 21-11, 21-15. Determined to continue their streak they then advanced to the finals where they met Falcon teammates Choi/Leung. Imran & Eric fought hard but just came short losing to last year’s PACWEST & CCAA mixed doubles champion (Choi) and PACWEST men’s doubles champion/CCAA men’s doubles finalist (Leung) 18-21, 28-30.
In the men's singles event, Imran showed no weakness as he swept through the preliminary round. Imran breezed through his first game beating KPU’s (Cheung) 21-17, 21-7. In the next round, VIU’s Liew pushed Imran to 3 sets but he pulled through winning 21-16, 19-21, 21-17. Next up was the semi-final where he met VIU’s (Spencer) and took the game 21-10, 21-18. Imran met 1st seed and teammate Matt Chan in the finals and earned himself the victory taking the men’s singles title 10-21, 21-18, 21-15.
