The Langara Falcons Women's team is lead by Head Coach Ryan Birt, who is entering his 14th year at the helm. Last year the Falcons finished fourth in PACWEST league play with a very young team, and ultimately fell to PACWEST league and Provincial Champions,Thompson Rivers University, in the Conference semi finals. This year, the Falcons return a large core from last years team, highlighted by PACWEST Rookie of the Year and PACWEST 1st team All Star, Olivia Kappeli. Langara has brought in goalkeeper, Melina Gomez, who previously played with KPU, and will strengthen their goalkeeping. Tejvir Mahli, returns to the Falcons after taking a year off, and is expected to provide some skill and leadership in centre midfield. Two of the Falcons top recruits from the high school ranks are Tessa Tasaka from McMcath, who was courted by the likes of UBC, UVIC and Trinity Western Univ., and Marsha Chesshire from Sutherland on the North Shore. Coach Birt is excited about this years group saying "this might be the most well balanced group we have had at Langara in several years. We are very strong in goal, solid in the back, strong, fast and creative in midfield, and quick and punishing up front. The overall skill and depth of this group is very good." The Falcons will open their season on Wednesday Sept 3rd playing Douglas College at 6:00pm at Cummings field in Coquitlam.
