Jan 15, 2013
The Langara Soccer team is pleased to announce the signings of 5'9" defender Olivia Kappeli from North Delta, BC and 5'9" center midfielder Alyssa Graeme from Richmond, BC.
Olivia comes to the Falcons by way of Coastal FC in the BC Premier Soccer League and has also previously played for Semiahmoo in the Metro League. Kappeli attends Burnsview Secondary where she was a part of two BC AA High School Provincial Championship teams. "We are so excited to have Olivia commit to attend Langara to study and play with our soccer program. I truly think she is one of the most under-rated talents of this years graduating class." commented Head Coach Ryan Birt. At 5'9" Olivia posseses good size, is extremely athletic and has good pace. She is a tremendous ball winner, especially in the air, and has a great ability to knock balls all over the park. Olivia choose Langara because it "is a good fit for starting my post secondary education. It has a good reputation for its educational standards and also the athletic program played a large part in my decision". She is looking forward to " joining the soccer team and settling into post secondary classes with smaller class sizes."
Alyssa is currently playing for Total Soccer Systems U19 team that plays in the Metro Women's Soccer League and has previously played for the Richmond Red Hot Selects of the Metro League. Alyssa is also a former member of the BC Provincial Team.
"Alyssa is an extremely talented soccer player who possesses a tremendous first touch, and has great vision and extremely quick feet when in possession of the ball" said Coach Birt. " We are excited to have ALyssa join our group as we feel that she will be a player that allows us to maintain possession of the ball because of her skill level and soccer IQ".
Alyssa is a former teammate of current Falcon Amrit Berar. The two played together with both the Richmond Red Hot Selects and the BC Provincial Team, Alyssa is looking forward to the oppotunity to team up with Berar again. She noted that" I chose to go to Langara because I know people who have attended in the past and have commented on what a great soccer program Langara offers, as well as having a good transfer program to other universities. I like the idea of going to a smaller school where I can interact and get to know both fellow students and teachers".
The Langara Women's Soccer Program will be hosting an ID Camp Saturday, March 09, 2013 from 11:00am to 2:00pm at Burnaby Lake West Field #3.
