Local Golf Star Named as Falcons' Newest Coach
July 25, 2018
The Langara Falcons are excited to welcome professional golfer Christine Wong as the newest coach of the College’s golf team.
Wong is a four-time NCAA Collegiate Tournament Champion who represented San Diego State University, as well as a former member of the Canadian women’s amateur national team. Originally from Richmond, BC, her career has taken her to high-profile events including the US Women’s Open and the Canadian Women’s Open.
“I’m really looking forward to working with this team and with Langara’s staff,” she said. “There’s a lot of promising student-athletes in this cohort, and I’m very excited about the opportunity to work with them.”
Langara’s golf program got its start during the 2015-2016 PACWEST season, partnering with the nearby Quilchena Golf and Country Club to serve as the team’s training facility. The team roster has included standouts like CCAA All-Canadian Jacob Vanderpas.
“We are thrilled to have Christine joining our team,” said Langara’s Director of Athletics and Intramurals Jake McCallum. “Her passion and dedication to the sport of golf will be a welcome addition to the program, and her background as an elite student-athlete will prove invaluable as she heads up the golf program this fall.”

Vanderpas Finishes Tied for 7th at CCAA Nationals
Oct 25, 2016
Jacob Vanderpas concluded a very successful season this past week as he tied for 7th at the CCAA Nationals in Charlottetown, PEI. Jacob had a tough start to his tournament after his flight into Charlottetown was canceled and he was forced to arrive a day later than planned. Due to his late arrival Jacob was unable to make the practice round prior to the tournament. He was able to deal with this adversity and re focus and shot a +1, 73 in his first round. On day two of the tournament Jacob had a very clean round, and shot even par to head into the final round within striking distance of the leaders. Jacob pushed a little harder in his final round and while he made more birdes, he also had more bogeys, and ended up with a final for the day at +3. Vanderpas ended up with a total score of +4 for the tournament, tied with 2 others for 7th place. The champion Joshiah Dixon from Niagra College won with a score of -5 after a 3 hole playoff. Congratulations again on a great year Jacob.
