The following submissions have been awarded Innovation Funds to develop new programs and credentials, consistent with Langara’s Academic Plan and BC’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint as follows:


For New Programming:

  1. Development and Implementation of a Post Degree Diploma In Accounting to provide students with the foundation required by the Chartered Professional Accountants of BC. Program development to be completed December, 2015 for September, 2016 launch. (Spencer Dane, Langara School of Management)

  2. Development and implementation of a Diploma in Financial Services Management to provide students with the foundation required to work in the financial services industry. Program development to be completed December, 2015 for September, 2016 launch. (Spencer Dane, Langara School of Management)

For Innovative Course/Program Enhancements:

  1. Development of a Co-operative Education Option and international exchange opportunities in the Bachelor of Recreation Management (BRM) program. Work to be completed January, 2016. (Janet Ready, Recreation Studies Department)

  2. Development of a Co-curricular Community Engagement Program to track student activities and produce certificates of completion for significant experiential learning. Work to be completed January, 2016. (Heather Workman & Jen Reid, Cooperative Education)

  3. Development of a proposal to establish a ‘makerspace’ at Langara that would provide a site for innovative interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary learning. Work to be completed January, 2016. (Tomo Tanaka, Creative Arts Division)

  4. Development of a university transferable applied chemistry course that would include work integrated and applied research opportunities. Content would be lab-based and connected to an industry partner. Work to be completed January, 2016. (Kelly Sveinsen, Chemistry Department)
