Filmmaker Tarique Qayumi was born in Afghanistan and came to Canada as a refugee. He received his MFA from UCLA and is currently the Phil Lind Multicultural Artist in Residence at UBC.

Free Trip to Egypt is a journey into the unknown, a film about the transformational power of human connection, and a remarkable experiment in kindness and empathy.
The film will be followed by a discussion moderated by the director, Tarek Mounib.

Panel discussion with Langarans who were the first in their family to attend post-secondary education. The panel will share their stories and recommendations regarding what's needed to support this unique First Generation demographic. Elder Mary Jane Joe, also a first generation student, will share a response to the panel.
