This position provides administrative and clerical support to the International Student Coordinator, Engagement and performs a wide range of support functions within the International Student Services unit.  The International Program Assistant supports the day-to-day activities and events within the established program of events for international students at Langara College.  This position works closely with the International Student Services team to provide support to promote International Education events to international students. As part of the administrative support team, this position provides coverage to other staff during absences and performs other related duties and/or projects in support of departmental activities, as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Grade 12 completion plus one (1) year post-secondary certificate in a relevant discipline.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Experience with supporting events and event planning.
  • Two (2) years of related experience in providing clerical and administrative support, preferably in an educational environment. Experience working with International students an asset.
  • Experience with updating content on social media platforms.
  • Intermediate - advanced proficiency in the use of computer applications including word processing (i.e. MS Word), spreadsheet (i.e. Excel), e-mail and Internet searching within a Windows environment.

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent English written and verbal communications skills.  Knowledge of another language an asset.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities when encountering conflicting demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrated high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform assignments with minimal supervision and work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious relationships at all levels, both internally and externally, including employees, students, secondary/post-secondary schools/institutions, peer and community groups, etc.
  • Ability to ensure that all employee and student interactions are respectful, service focused, and collegial
  • Ability to exercise judgement, tact and discretion.
  • Must have a positive, student-service oriented, “can do” attitude.
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity and adaptation skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, interests, and abilities.

Working Conditions:

  • Must have a current Class 5 BC driving license and regular access to a vehicle to travel within Metro Vancouver
  • Must be able to physically lift, set-up and strike down various materials/supplies for special events.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
  • This position is not subject to the compressed work week schedule.

Salary Range: $1,631.57 - $1,855.75 Bi-Weekly (Pay Grade 19)

Employee Group: CUPE

Hours & Days of Work: 8:30am - 4:30pm. Monday to Friday, however, hours may vary according to the needs of the department. This position is not subject to the compressed workweek schedule.
