Description of Position:

The Simulation Educator position assumes responsibility for a variety of functions relative to the School of Nursing and PDD program. The Simulation Educator works within the School of Nursing to ensure that the Simulation-Based Education Strategic Plan is congruent with Langara College’s Strategic and Academic Plans.  The Simulation Educator contributes to fostering a positive work environment. The Simulation Educator is a collaborative position held by nursing faculty with further preparation in simulation

 Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Programs

                1. Assists with the planning and writing of any required report for the College or external agencies.

                2. Lines of Communication

 1. Collaborates and meets regularly with the Faculty of Nursing Leadership Team to discuss simulation-related issues/concerns.

 2. Collaborates with Assistant Chair, Curriculum regarding Simulation-Based Education for School of Nursing and PDD program.


A. School of Nursing

  1. Assumes responsibility for correspondence and files related to the position.
  2. Develops and implements guidelines and policies pertinent to the School of Nursing Simulation Program and the PDD program.
  3. Participates in developing a culture of scholarship.
  4. Develops implements and evaluates a Simulation Based Education strategic plan.

B. Faculty

  1. Assist and support faculty with simulation scenario design and development.
  2. Assist and support faculty with effective implementation and facilitation of simulation-based experiences/activities.
  3. Assist and support faculty to develop effective debriefing and evaluation of simulation-based experiences/activities.
  4. Collaborate with faculty to promote fidelity and realism of simulation-based experiences/activities to meet simulation-based learning outcomes within curriculum.
  5. Collaborate with faculty to integrate consistent and evidence-based simulation experiences/activities throughout the curriculum.
  6. Provide faculty with regular orientation and education related to fundamental principles of simulation-based experiences including design, facilitation, debriefing and other educational activities.
  7. Assist and participate with implementing simulation-based experiences/activities as appropriate.
  8. Engage in ongoing professional development with associated competency validation.

1. School of Nursing Curriculum Steering Committee

2. Faculty of Nursing Faculty Committee

Required Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or related field. Applicants with a BSN may be considered with limitation.
  • Three (3) years of relevant and current nursing practice experience. Five years of nursing practice preferred. Canadian experience preferred
  • Demonstrated post-secondary teaching experience preferably in an academic institution
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills
  • Develop effective working relationships with key stakeholders such as health authority representatives and employers, and post-secondary educators
  • Able to independently prioritize work
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and to supporting student learning
  • Ability and willingness to contribute in the Faculty of Nursing meetings and initiatives
  • Able and willing to travel to assigned clinical practice sites
  • Skillful in the use of computers and other AV equipment
  • Demonstrated critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Current and active British Columbia College of Nurse Professionals (BCCNP) registration
  • Current CPR (HCP or BLS) and N-95 certification

Length of appointment:  1 year

Start Date: January 2, 2020

Salary Range: Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
