Description of Position:

Langara College is committed to ensuring a rigorous and meaningful program review and renewal process. The Teaching & Curriculum Development Centre (TCDC) encourages innovation and excellence in curriculum development and program design and supports faculty in maintaining and improving Langara's high standards of teaching and learning. TCDC guides and supports departments through the program review process with a focus on program strengths and future goals; it builds and renew program curriculum with input from all stakeholders, and fosters intercultural awareness and understanding in a collegial environment with services, resources, and activities to meet the College’s educational goals.

The program review and renewal process is to examine the strengths and challenges, review accomplishments, identify future goals and develop strategies to achieve them. TCDC facilitates and manages Langara’s evidence-based program review process.

The Program Review Facilitator, reporting to the Department Chair, works collaboratively with the Academic and Faculty Leadership, the Office of Institutional Research, Department Chairs, and the Teaching and Curriculum Development Centre team to initiate and conduct formal program reviews for regular studies at Langara.



  • coordinate and initiate program reviews; organize and initiate all activities related to the cycle of program reviews, such as orientation and workshops/sessions for internal self-study
  • facilitate departmental discussions in the development of program goals and program-level student learning outcomes
  • liaise with Institutional Research to provide survey outcomes, enrolment data and analysis and other relevant program review information
  • liaise with the Curriculum Development Consultants throughout the process
  • ensure external audit and accreditation requirements related to program review are met; identify best practices; and maintain evidence requirements for audits related to program review
  • monitor progress on recommendations of reviewed programs to keep the Department, Division Chair and Dean informed on the status of changes/amendments of academic programs coming out of the review process

Project Management

  • expertly manage the many phases of the program review process and requirements; provide orientation to the program review process
  • chair meetings, prepare meeting materials, coordinate and schedule meeting dates
  • arrange and facilitate student, faculty and advisory focus groups as appropriate
  • create and refine the processes, procedures and timelines for Langara’s program reviews
  • with Department Assistant, manage documentation; file management and distribution to members of review committee

Report Writing

  • write final self-study report, in collaboration with the Department Chair/Coordinator, which outlines themes and recommendations, and incorporate supplementary reports, survey data and other evidence collected through the program review process
  • create, deliver and analyze surveys and data from students and other sources
  • prepare complex and confidential documents and materials that may include reports, databases and spreadsheets to advise policy and procedures related to program review
  • prepare summative reports and deliver presentations to multiple stakeholder groups (internal and external)

College and Department Service

  • participate in strategic and budget planning as required
  • participate in a variety of College committees as appropriate
  • represent the College at relevant provincial and national conferences or meetings

Required Qualifications:

  • minimum of a Master’s degree; a combination of education and experience may be considered
  • five or more years of full time direct teaching experience in postsecondary education
  • employed at Langara College, or a similar institution in a faculty position
  • recent experience (past 4-5 years) with program development
  • recent up-to-date experience with distributed education
  • demonstrated excellence in group facilitation techniques
  • superior organizational and time management skills
  • analytic and research skills (both quantitative and qualitative)
  • ability to take initiative and work collaboratively with diverse academic and administrative staff
  • demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • effective planning skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while setting and maintaining priorities
  • ability to be flexible in relation to the time demands of the position
  • proven proficiency in computer applications including word processing, presentation and spreadsheet software
  • demonstrated knowledge of college organization and systems
  • demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication
  • understanding of curriculum development processes currently in use at the college
  • demonstrated understanding of program and curriculum requirements of the Degree Quality Assessment Board and evolving quality assessment and program development expectations of the provincial Ministry of Advanced Education

Length of appointment: 1 year with the possibility of continuation pending review

Start Date: July 3, 2018

Salary Range: Salary placement is on Langara instructors' salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
