Program Overview:  WMDD is a two-year post-baccalaureate diploma program focused on web and mobile app design and development, from concept to deployment. This program encompasses visual aesthetics (including typography, color theory, and graphics), client and server programming, user experience design, and project management. Students will choose to enter the designer or developer stream of the program when they apply, although they can change their focus up until the third term.

Students will complete several projects, both individually and in teams. Throughout, they will produce real world projects, develop digital portfolios, and build industry connections. It consists of four semesters of in-class studies plus an optional semester experiential work term in which valuable industry work experience will be gained.

Students will specialize in advanced development or design and, at the end of the program, will possess the technical and communication skills for jobs in freelance, small business or corporate environments.

Students have a common set of courses throughout the program and specialize in one of two areas: Designer or Developer.

For the January 2019, we are seeking instructors with graphic design expertise in web and mobile applications.

Description of Position:      

WMDD 4805: Introduction to Raster Graphics

Introduces the tools and techniques to create raster graphics for online delivery. Students will examine correcting colour, making selections, determining resolution requirements and optimizing graphics as part of an integrated workflow.

WMDD 4810: Introduction to Vector Graphics

Explores the creation of high-quality, scalable graphics designed for user interface components. Students will use a variety of tools and techniques to create vector-based icons, graphics and illustrations.

Required Qualifications:     

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent); OR 10+ years of relevant industry experience in the tech industry with a focus on business and social media.
  • Applicants with relevant real world experience are preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience would be an asset.
  • Course design would be an asset.
  • Must attend department meetings and assist with department duties.

Length of appointment: Teaching January 1st to April 30th, 2019

Start Date: January 1st, 2019

Salary Range: Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
