Description of Position:

The Business Management program area of Continuing Studies invites applications for a teaching position in the following subject area:

  • Labour Relations course in the Advanced Management Skills Certificate Program

Instructors are responsible for preparing materials that fulfill the course learning outcomes, planning lessons, developing assignments and exams that reflect the integrated nature of the course syllabus. Focus of the course are as follows: This course introduces the fundamentals of the union, management relationship within the workplace, structure, organization and operations of unions. Detailed course content and topics covered are as follows: labour legislation, union certification, collective bargaining, interpretation of the collective agreement, and contemporary issues in labour relations. Detailed information on the course will be available in July. Please visit the Langara College Continuing Studies website; look at the course SSCP 2052 under Business heading. Course is scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays starting September 28, 29 and October 5, 6, and 12, 2019 from 9 am to 4 pm. Therefore, instructors must be available during these hours. The position is temporary position for the fall 2019 term with the possibility of extension. Instruction hours: 30

Qualifications:

  • Human Resources Professional (CHRP) with British Columbia and Yukon
  • 5 years of professional experience directly related to the Human Resources field
  • Have the knowledge of labour relations practices in BC
  • At least two years teaching experience in similar course or related subject in a post-secondary institution preferably
  • Experience in developing course materials
  • Proven knowledge of BC insurance practices and local Labour market information

Length of Appointment:  These contracts will be temporary for the duration of the course. Courses will run once per term and may be renewed for following terms.
