This project aims at analyzing institutional data, and survey or interviews with students and faculty, to assess the impact of the move to remote, online learning on students from rural and remote communities. Learn more.

College and Community Innovation Program – Applied Research Rapid Response to COVID-19

Applications are required to address at least one of the two competition themes: 

  • Assisting industry with production challenges to address COVID-19 (e.g., prototyping, enhanced production processes, repurposing of existing manufacturing infrastructure for production of new products, data analytics relating to the COVID-19 outbreak, etc.).
  • Contributing to the solution of community innovation challenges (health, social, policy) of immediate relevance to the COVID 19 outbreak (e.g. impact of social isolation on vulnerable populations, implementation of community social distancing policies, addressing mental health impacts of COVID-19, changing scope of policies and regulations, etc.).

Fast Grants - Applied Research Rapid Response to COVID-19

Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke has joined forces with a group of tech entrepreneurs and venture capitalists to create Fast Grants to fund research on coronavirus prevention and treatment. The first grants will be awarded April 12, after which application decisions will be made in less than 4 hours. Approved researchers will receive a payment of between $10,000 to $500,000 "as quickly as your university can receive it." For Canadian recipients, Fast Grants makes funding recommendations to the Thistledown Foundation.

SSHRC PEG COVID-19 Special Initiative

The PEG COVID-19 Special Initiative provides short-term and timely support for small-scale, stakeholder-driven partnerships through Partnership Engage Grants (PEG). This Special Initiative will allow researchers and their partners the possibility to address urgent and specific needs, as well as challenges or opportunities through collaborations. It will also provide a unique opportunity to foster knowledge exchange between postsecondary researchers and different sectors of society while including students, PhDs, PDFs and other HQPs on the COVID-19 crisis related issues, challenges and impacts.

Grants are valued at a maximum amount of $25K per project for duration of one year.
